A note from Marlena Owens: This is my first “You Enter View” interview for authors and writers! I hope you enjoy getting to know fellow authors and writers just as much as I do! Today, author and writer Maggie Blackbird will “Enter View”.
Thank you, Maggie, for taking the time to answer some questions about yourself and giving us a more clear view into your personality!
What is your name and location?
Maggie Blackbird. Northwestern Ontario, Canada
What do you do for a living/hobby?
For a living, I write now. For hobbies? I love golf. Playing and watching. Gardening. Working in the yard. Mowing the lawn. Seriously LOL. Walking the dogs every morning. Exercising. Baking. Cooking. Reading. Fishing. Boating. I love the outdoors.
Tell me about your journey, in life, up to this point.
My journey’s been pretty good. Did bad stuff happen? Of course. And I grew from the bad. Did good stuff happen? Yes. And I celebrated the good. I’m married to a wonderful man. We have two fur babies. We live in the country on a big piece of land. Life’s good.
Who is your biggest inspiration? Why?
My parents. They don’t talk it, they walk it.
Tell me about obstacles you have overcome.
There are many obstacles in life to overcome. I look at them as hurdles I have to jump. The latest big battle was Sjogren’s Syndrome, a chronic auto-immune disease that is progressive and has no cure or no real treatment.
How did you overcome them?
Through faith, family, good friends, and love, I learned to live with this disease.
What advice would you give someone who looks up to you?
I’m not a giver of advice. I simply share what I did, and then the person must make the best decision for themselves.
Do you travel? If so, where have you been?
My travelling days are done. I travelled way too much during my previous job, which is one of the reasons I left. I loved the job. I had great co-workers and a great boss, made a wonderful salary, enjoyed working with other aboriginal organizations, Indigenous communities and individuals, but the travel was too much. I am now a homebody LOL.
What are you most thankful for?
Being blessed with a wonderful family, great friends, and a loving husband.
Tell me about your goals for the future.
I’m one of those people who doesn’t plan too far ahead. I’m a believer in living one day at a time. For now, I’m working on my second and third books for my publisher.
Explain your belief system.
I’m not sure what you mean by this LOL. Belief in self? Belief in something not of this earth? I’m at that stage in my life where I accept what I can’t change and find the courage to change what I can. What I can usually change is me and my attitude towards people, life, and situations.
What do you love about yourself?
That I spend more time giving than receiving. The more you give, the more you receive, which is why I agreed to your tweet to be interviewed. You were looking for people to interview at your blog. And I said yes because you deserve to have people say yes.
Check out details of Maggie’s book below!
A mixed-blood Catholic seminarian struggles to discern his true calling: the priesthood or his ex-lover, a proud but damaged Ojibway man.
Blurb: It’s been ten years since Emery Matawapit sinned, having succumbed to temptation for the one thing in his life that felt right, another man. In six months he’ll make a life-changing decision that will bar him from sexual relationships for the rest of his life.
Darryl Keejik has a decade-long chip on his shoulder, and he holds Emery’s father, the church deacon, responsible for what he’s suffered: the loss of his family and a chance at true love with Emery. No longer a powerless kid, Darryl has influence within the community—maybe more than the deacon, and he intends on using his new-found power to destroy Deacon Matawapit and the church.
Hoping to save the church, Emery races home. But stopping Darryl is harder than expected when their sizzling chemistry threatens to consume Emery. Now he is faced with the toughest decision of his life: please his devout parents and fulfill his call to the priesthood, or remain true to his heart and marry the man created for him.
An erotic spiritual journey…
